The RACI community has played a pivotal role in helping me to establish my academic career in Australia. Having joined the University of Melbourne from New Zealand during the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2021, I found it challenging to connect with colleagues across Australia due to travel restrictions and lockdowns. I was therefore grateful for the opportunity to get involved with the newly formed RACI Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GASC) National Group in 2022. It enabled me to build new connections with academics and peers across Australia. A particular highlight was helping to organise and run the 1st RACI Green and Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering National Conference in Cairns last year, which provided an excellent platform for me to set up new collaborations as well as to showcase our work. I was also part of the RACI GASC communications team that is responsible for producing regular newsletters. This gave me the opportunity to interview leading Australian chemists and highlight the exciting research being carried out across Australia. Overall, I think RACI is a fantastic organisation that unites the Australian chemistry community, and I am proud to be part of it.
