Chemistry Education Division Medal
Nominations for the Division Medal should include the following information:
- Curriculum vitae (maximum 1 page) including details of activities directly related to chemical education and leadership roles
- A detailed statement of no more than 1000 words describing the nominee's sustained contribution to chemical education in Australia as demonstrated in one or more of the following: education research, teaching, service to the chemistry education community, and public engagement in chemistry education.
- A PDF copy of two significant works, such as publications, widely-used resources, submissions to the Government or other influential material that demonstrates significant impact in chemical education (or related impact in science or higher education, see below) are to be attached to the application. An applicant is encouraged to provide a 30-word justification of impact for each output (within the overall word limit).
- Names and addresses of two referees (confidential).
The sub-committee of the Division will take into account the extent to which the nominee has met the following criteria in considering applications:
- A sustained contribution to chemical education in Australia evident within the past 5 - 10 (or longer) year period immediately prior to the submission date of the nomination.
- Evidence of impact on a national scale through one or more of the following: education research, scholarship of teaching and learning, engagement and/or service in chemistry education, and/or Fellowship recognition (such as Advance HE fellowship).
- Leadership within Royal Australian Chemical Institute in the area of chemical education and/or within the Division of Chemistry Education.
Example types of activities that could be included to evidence the above criteria:
- Organisation and coordination of state/national/international events promoting and supporting research and evidence-based practice in chemical education.
- Invited oral contributions to national and/or international conferences, publication in peer-reviewed chemistry/science education journals, book chapters, or books.
- Contribution to national/international chemistry education policy or guidelines (such as representation on national and/or international educational boards and/or committees).
- Development of teaching and learning resources (such as books, visual aids, interactive learning resources, online technologies/tools) that have subsequently been widely adopted.
- The development of innovative pedagogies that have been evidenced as having a positive impact on student learning and/or the student experience in learning chemistry.
- The development of inclusive curricula and practices that widen participation in learning chemistry for traditionally underrepresented groups of students.
Contribution to work in areas allied to chemical education, e.g. science education and higher education, will be considered but the nominee is required to demonstrate the impact of outcomes on chemical education in Australia.
One medal is awarded per year.

Following the deadline, no additional applications or nominations for the award will be considered.
If the selection committee determines that no candidate demonstrates adequate merit, they reserve the right to abstain from granting the award.
