President Elect

Professor Paul Bernhardt

Professor Paul Bernhardt received his undergraduate and postgraduate education at the University of Newcastle, NSW (PhD 1991, DSc 2007). He spent 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Basel (Switzerland) before returning to Australia to take up an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Australian National University (1993-4). He joined the University of Queensland in 1994 as a Lecturer and is currently Professor of Chemistry.

Paul joined RACI in 1986 and has been a member ever since. He became a Fellow of RACI in 2001. His past RACI activities include Qld Branch Secretary (1995-99), Chair of the Inorganic Chemistry Division (2007-10) and member of the Qualifications and Accreditation Committee (2010-11). He has served on the organising committees of a number of RACI Inorganic Divisional conferences including IC’08 (Christchurch), ICCC39 (IC’10, Adelaide) and IC’13 (Brisbane, as Chair).

Other external activities include Associate Editor, Australian Journal of Chemistry (2008-present) and member of the Australian Research Council College (Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences Panel, 2011-13).

His research group undertakes projects in a variety of areas including enzyme electrochemistry, bioinorganic chemistry and coordination chemistry.
