In 2009 RACI re-examined the organisational goals and strategic direction, as a result the following goals have been adopted.

Strategic Goals:

Professional Development

RACI aims to have in place a comprehensive portfolio of quality professional development programs easily accessed by a wide range of members progressing through all professional levels. These programs will include personal accreditation programs.

Membership

RACI aims to have an expanding, more diverse, and an actively engaged membership with a strong sense of belonging to RACI.

Communicating Chemistry to the Public

RACI aims to be a respected and timely source of public comment, advocacy, and influential policy advice on chemistry related issues.

Meeting and Defining Industry needs and its alignment with Academia

RACI aims to assist industry to identify and articulate its needs and facilitate effective two-way communication between industry and tertiary educational institutions to influence the supply of appropriately qualified students to the workforce.

Quality of and Engagement with Chemical Education

RACI aims to assist educational institutions to identify and meet the needs of students and educators for chemistry related education including career advice to students. RACI accreditation will be regarded by students and employers as the gold standard for chemistry degree courses. RACI will be actively engaged with schools in raising awareness of chemistry.

Career Development

RACI aims to assist members throughout their career with trusted information and advice on employment, employment opportunities, job exchanges, work placements, and networking.

Networked Chemistry Community

RACI aims to have in place state of the art communication systems enabling members to identify others with common interest and interact online.

Organisation

RACI aims to have in place the organisational structures and processes to achieve its goals.

RACI or the Royal Australian Chemical Institute was founded in 1917 as both the qualifying body in Australia for professional chemists and a learned society promoting the science and practice of chemistry.

Almost one hundred years on and RACI has over 6000 members with an extensive nationwide network and a presence in every State and Territory. Our members work across all Australian industrial sectors, in food and hygiene; climate and environment; energy and resources; analytical and forensic; health and biotechnology; education and the public service.

• A National Convention is held every five years.

• Divisions arrange national symposia in their own fields of interest between National Conventions.

• National Chemistry Week has been an annual event since 1982

• The Australian National Chemistry Quiz (ANCQ) involves more than 140,000 students from 1400 schools across 15 countries

• RACI publishes Chemistry in Australia a monthly magazine containing a range of articles, information and news items about chemists, industry, policy, appointments and similar matters of interest.
