ANCQ's Global Reach Continues

The 2011 ANCQ has received International media coverage, with the following story being published in The Hindu:

It was fifth period - the most difficult half an hour for many in the classroom whose urge to grab a quick bite from their lunch box grows stronger just before the lunch break.

Even as everyone pulled out their physics notebooks, the teacher entered the classroom and headed straight to Teja Sai Krishna Prakash. He took the boy to the office of the principal who was interacting with a few persons. Krishna Prakash grew curious but decided to keep silent. The Principal turned to him with a broad smile and congratulated him, handing him a certificate, a memento and a plastic cover.

A smile appeared on the boy's face when he read the wording on the plaque he held in his hand --“The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Australia, an International Chemistry Quiz – ANCQ 2011”. Added below were the golden words: “Certificate of Excellence”.

A student of eighth class in N.S.M. Public School, Krishna Prakash is among 13 Indian students who scored 100 per cent marks and among 52 Indian students who were given Award of Excellence in the International Chemistry Quiz, ANCQ 2011, conducted on September 9 last year by The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Australia.

The contest attracted 117,812 entries from 1,647 schools of levels 7-12 in Australia and 16 other countries, including India.

The UNESCO and International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) had designated year 2011 as an International Year of Chemistry and the IUPAC had endorsed the Australian National Chemistry Quiz as an international unifying event.
