Pearson Education Chemistry Educator of The Year

Pearson Education Australia is Australia’s leading publisher of educational resources. Pearson Education Australia have established this joint award with the RACI for academics whose primary activity is teaching in the chemistry discipline. This award is designed to encourage developing teachers, and is open to tutors, lecturers and senior lecturers (academic levels A, B and C) teaching in undergraduate or postgraduate University courses.

Rules of Entry

1. Nominees must be financial members of the RACI.

2. All material should be submitted and received no later than 5.00 pm, Eastern Standard Time on 30th April. Receipt by National Office of each nomination will be acknowledged. It is recommended that nominations are submitted by email (awards@raci.org.au).

3. Nominees must be academics whose primary activity is teaching in the chemistry disciplines. This award is designed to encourage developing teachers, and is open to tutors, lecturers and senior lecturers (academic levels A, B and C) teaching in undergraduate or postgraduate University courses.

4. The prize consists of $3500 and a glass trophy and will be presented at the RACI Awards Dinner held each November.

5. The prize money must be used to further develop the winner’s contribution to chemistry teaching.
Some suggestions include:

  • Payment towards an overseas trip to attend a relevant chemistry conference;
  • Funding the development of a teaching program or software;
  • Funding the development of innovative teaching pilots;
  • Funding the development of a ‘new’ teaching project.
  • The winner will be required to submit an article for publication in the RACI journal “Chemistry in Australia” on his/her contribution to chemistry teaching.

    Information on Nominations
    Submissions must include:
    1. Contact details – postal and email addresses, phone and fax numbers.
    2. A Brief curriculum vitae focusing on those aspects which will support your application.
    3. A statement (1-2 pages) of your overall approach to teaching and learning.
    4. Information and examples from your practice which illustrate and support your approach.
    5. Names, addresses, email and phone contacts of no more than three (3) referees.
    6. Supporting letters from the referees which may be forwarded directly to the RACI. The RACI may seek other opinions and candidates should indicate any persons they do not wish to be contacted.  

    Conditions of Entry

  • No correspondence will be entered into.
  • Previous winners of the Centenary of Federation Tertiary Award are NOT eligible to apply.
  • The judges’ decision is final and they reserve the right not to make an award if the criteria  are not met.
  • Entrants must be currently employed within an Australian university.
  • Winner and entrants may be requested to be available for publicity purposes.
