Corporate Members of the RACI are those in the following member categories:

  • Fellow Chartered Chemist (FRACI CChem)
  • Member Chartered Chemist (MRACI CChem)

Corporate Members are known as Chartered Chemists. Chartered Chemists are those who have met the required professional experience for admission to Corporte Membership.

Corporate Members may also be Certified Practising Chemists (CPChem). A Certified Practising Chemist is a Corporate Member who meets specified ongoing professional development requirements of the Institute.


Non-Corporate Members are in the following member categories:
  • Member, such as graduates with the required chemistry qualification but not the required professional experience
  • Member, such as students without the required chemistry qualification and those with an interest in chemistry

What will it cost me to join?

A new application requires a payment of $55.00 if the proposed member resides in Australia or $50.00 from overseas. Payments must be attached to the new member application form.

Subsequent fees will be as follows:

  • Non-Corporate Member: $154.00
  • Non-Corporate Member (MRACI) graded scale $154.00 to $236.50
  • Member Chartered Chemist (MRACI C Chem) $236.50
  • Fellow Chartered Chemist (FRACI C Chem) $264.00

I have received the Subscription Notice and been charged the full rate. What do I need to pay if I'm unemployed?

$60.50 for Australian residents or $55.00 overseas


Do I need to provide proof of unemployment?

Yes. A copy of your Centrelink Health Care Card, other Centrelink paperwork, Job Network registration form, or a letter from your ex-employer e.g. termination letter etc.


How do I provide proof if I'm on maternity leave?

Please attach to the subscription notice a note explaining that you are on maternity leave with the date you left the workforce.


What do I need to pay if I am a student?

$60.50 for Australian residents or $55.00 for overseas residents. The relevant section on the Tax Invoice must be completed and returned with the payment.


What payment methods do you accept?

The RACI accept the following payment methods only:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Australia Post Money Order
  • Cheque
  • Cash over the counter only at the National or NSW Branch office: (PLEASE DO NOT POST CASH)

When and how do I upgrade my membership status?

  • After completion of your degree you are required to upgrade to the Member (MRACI) category
  • After completion of your degree plus three years of relevant professional experience you are entitled and required to upgrade to the Corporate level of Member Chartered Chemist (MRACI CChem).
  • An application form is available from the National Office or on the web: Membership Form
  • Eminent members may apply for Fellowship of the RACI using the form on the web: fellowshipapp.pdf

Do referees need to be members of the RACI?

No. They are simply required to attest to your work experience.


Can I suspend my membership? If so, what do I need to do to reactivate it and how much will it cost?

Yes. If residing overseas for more than six months, membership can be suspended. To reactivate membership simply notify us and a pro-rata account will be issued.


I am due to retire. Is there a concession available?

  • Retired members must be over 55 years of age
  • Please advise and we will alter your status to retired member and future accounts will be levied at the concession fee of $60.50 for Australian residents and $55.00 for overseas residents
  • All membership benefits are retained, including reciept of "Chemistry in Australia"

What do I need to do to resign my membership to the RACI?

Please notify us in writing by e-mail, fax or mail and payment of any outstanding balance will be adjusted. If you should wish to rejoin in the future we can activate your former membership at a pro-rata rate.

If my Membership Certificate is lost or damaged can I order a new one?

Yes. Membership Certificates can be replaced for a fee of $110 (GST inclusive).
