Application and Documentation
[Word DOC]
The concept of the Certified Practising Chemist qualification
(CPChem) provides a mechanism to promote the continued professional
development essential for a professional chemist to keep up
to date and for continuous improvement in standards of professional
practice. The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Inc., in particular
through its Qualifications and Professional Assessment Committees,
works rigorously to maintain and review professional standards
required for Chartered membership. A self regulated and voluntary
professional development program (planning, implementation
and review) empowers the individual Chartered Chemist to take
responsibility for continual improvement.
The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Inc. will determine acceptable
CPChem requirements providing the flexibility and diversity
necessary for individual needs and the various situations
in which chemists work.
The Certified Practising Chemist qualification (CPChem) can
be claimed by Chartered Chemist Members and Fellows of The
Royal Australian Chemical Institute Inc. after a minimum of 90
hours of approved activities in the previous three year period.
Associate members may start to accrue the Professional Development
hours required to achieve the CPChem qualification immediately upon
graduation whilst still in the process of gaining professional experience.
Two types of activities are acceptable:
(a) Formal activities, courses, presentation of seminars,
participation in conferences, any positive acquisition of
new knowledge and/or techniques. Proof of these activities,
such as photocopies of receipts, certificates, etc., will
be required. Activities under (a) may be audited.
(b) Informal, unstructured activities for which a diary is
kept, e.g. reading of appropriate literature, professional
activities.
The guiding principle is that the activities must be something
extra, not form part of your day-to-day employment, i.e. they
must be something undertaken to keep you up to date or improve
your professional effectiveness in the workplace.
