Strategies - Inorganic Chemistry Division

  • Maintain a current account balance of at least $40,000 in order to be able to confidently plan future activities of the Division, with this amount to be reviewed periodically
  • Maintain a prominent role in the national affairs of the RACI and assist with implementation of RACI's policies
  • Assist inorganic chemists in their professional development through conferences and workshops.
  • Hold regular Inorganic Division conferences, normally at 1-2 year intervals, in concert with RACI Conventions and major cognate international meetings, and to schedule an overseas meeting every 8-10 years in association with a regional kindred society including the NZIC
  • Where appropriate, hold joint conferences with other Divisions of the RACI, focusing on common themes which embrace the principles of inorganic chemistry
  • Secure international conferences relevant to inorganic chemistry
  • Maintain the Burrows Award as the premier award in inorganic chemistry
  • Develop Awards for postgraduate students to encourage and assist participation in conferences involving participation by the Inorganic Division, and to encourage membership
  • Provide seed funding as a loan (up to $2,000, to be reviewed periodically) to other specialist international inorganic chemistry meetings held in Australia
  • Provide direct support (up to $2,000, to be reviewed periodically) to organised regional Australian conferences which have no other funding opportunities, and on the basis of detailed budgets submitted with a funding request. These conferences would be expected to emphasize postgraduate student participation.
  • Develop and maintain a WWW entry as a means of central contact and central exposure of activities of the Division
  • Develop where possible cost-effective travel packages for members of the RACI affiliated with the Division, and for international visitors
  • Promote educational programs and initiatives of inorganic chemistry, and encourage the tertiary teaching of inorganic chemistry through to final year undergraduate level
  • Assist in the production of posters and brochures on chemistry and chemistry issues for general use in the community
  • Encourage best practices in inorganic chemistry, environmental responsibility, and Occupational Health & Safety.
