Medal: Call For Nominations
Nominations are now being sought for the Chemical Education
Medal. Conditions are indicated below.

- The Division of Chemical Education of the Royal Australian Chemical
Institute shall have an award entitled: "The Division of Chemical Education Medal". This shall be the premier award of the
Division.
- 2
- One Medal may be awarded at each National Meeting of the
Division, the next meeting being the RACI ChemEd08 Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia from 30 November to 4 December 2008.
- 3
- The medal shall be awarded to any member of the RACI for
whom excellence in chemical education can be demonstrated. Applications
will be considered on the basis of the overall contribution to
chemical education in Australia in the previous 10 year period
and contribution to chemical education by way of research, teaching
and/or promotion of chemistry.

- The medal shall normally be awarded to a permanent resident
of Australia. Nominees for the Medal must be RACI members.

- The recipient shall be invited to present a paper to the
National Meeting at which the award is made. The relevant meeting being the RACI ChemEd08 Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia from 30 November to 4 December 2008.

- The Secretary of the Division shall normally make at least
two calls for nominations for the award of the medal at least
six months before the National meeting at which the award is
to be made.

- Submissions may be made by self-nomination, by nomination
by two members of the Division of Chemical Education, or by invitation
of the Standing Committee of the Division.

- Nominations close on 31 May 2008 and should be addressed to the Divisional Chair.

- Nominations for the medal should include the following information:
- Name
- Curriculum vitae
- A detailed statement on the nominee's contribution to chemical
education in Australia as demonstrated in one or more of the
following: research, teaching, and the promotion of chemistry.
- Details of publications and other supporting information.
It would be advantageous if copies of publications were attached.
- Names and addresses of two confidential referees.

- The Standing committee of the Division shall appoint a sub-committee
of five members (with power to co-opt), including the Chairperson
of Division, to consider applications and to recommend to the
Standing Committee. The Chairperson of Division shall be, ex
officio, the Chairperson of the sub-committee.

- The sub-committee shall consider applications on the basis
of some or all of the following:
- Overall contribution to chemical education in Australia in
the previous 10 year period.
- Contribution to chemical education by way of research, teaching
and/or promotion of chemistry.
- Consideration may be given to work in allied areas, eg science
education etc, but it would be necessary for the nominee to demonstrate
that such work had a clear influence on chemical education in
Australia.

- The Standing Committee reserves the right to make no award
if a suitable application is not received.
