A Division Citation was awarded to Margaret Lindsay.
Margaret graduated BScDipEd from University of Sydney and LTCL in Speech and Drama. She started teaching at Sydney Girls High and has taught at state and private schools in Sydney and Saudi Arabia.
Margaret took up a position as Head of Science and completed a MEd at UNSW. She taught at Macquarie University and University of Sydney in science education. At the start of the University of Sydney International Foundation Program she designed the chemistry syllabus.
In 2000 she went online with e-cademy as a chemistry educational designer and tutor. In 2002, Margaret moved to Educational Assessment Australia as a senior assessment officer.
Margaret joined RACI in 1991. She became secretary of the NSW Chemical Education Group in 1998 and has served as secretary since then with one break.
Margaret initiated “chemwear and collectables” with the Group. Together with Jenny Jones, OAM FRACI, then chair of the Group, Margaret began the “Captivating Chemistry” workshops. In 2000, following introduction of the Chemical Safety in Schools, Margaret and Georgia Deretic, began a new series of workshops for school staff. Funds raised by workshops and chemwear have been used “to enhance the learning and teaching of chemistry”.
