MISSION STATEMENT
To further the personal and professional development of chemists in the field of analytical chemistry.
OBJECTIVES
- Professional
To promote the discipline of analytical chemistry and the status of chemists involved in that profession through the conduct of seminars, symposia and lectures.
- Learned Society
To encourage the understanding and application of the principles of analytical chemistry in all areas of the science of chemistry.
- Membership
To encourage chemists with an involvement in analytical chemistry to join The RACI in order to further the profession of chemistry and their development.
Participation in the affairs of the Division shall be open to:
- All members of The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Inc. without payment of an additional subscription who indicate their interest in the Division in writing to the Secretary* of the Institute.
- Members of other professional institutes and societies # at the discretion of Council.
- Any person affiliated with it by payment of a fee as determined by Council.
* This is indicated on the annual membership renewal notice.
# Any institute or society approved by Council shall be named in a footnote.
All office-bearers of the Division must be Corporate Members of The RACI.
- Office-bearers shall be elected for a term of two years, the election coinciding with the National Conference of the Division.
- Nominations shall be called three months before the AC conference by advertising the elections in "Chemistry in Australia". There will be one month for nominations to be sent to the Returning Officer of the Division.
- The Chairman and Treasurer shall present reports at the General Meeting of the Division.
- The Returning Officer will be appointed at the General Meeting of the Division for the next election.
The affairs of the Division shall be managed
by the Standing Committee of the Division, which will consist
of:
- the Chair
- the Secretary
- the Treasurer
- the Immediate Past Chair (for the Chair's first year of office only)
- the Chairman-elect (for the Chair's second year of office only)
- one member from each state/territory elected from and by Divisional members in that state/territory
- the Divisional Editor
Where necessary, the Standing Committee may authorise payment of expenses incurred by its members in attending Standing Committee meetings.
The duties of the Secretary of the Division shall include responsibility for:

Minutes of Standing Committee meetings and the General Meeting
of the Division - a copy of the minutes must be sent to
National Office.
- Compiling a list of names and addresses of non-RACI members interested in the Division.
- Compiling a list of names and addresses of RACI members interested in the Division.
Divisional Editor duties:
- Publicise Divisional activities in "Chemistry in Australia" and in other areas as specified by the Standing Committee.

Collate reports on meetings and symposia from the Standing
Committee members for forwarding to National Office.
Treasurer duties:
- Collection and disbursement of Divisional funds as authorised by the Standing Committee.
- Maintenance of accurate records of all transactions.
- Preparation of an annual budget and financial report.

Organisation of the audit (by a Chartered Accountant) of the
Division's accounts at the end of the financial year and
ensuring the audited statements are sent to National Office by
31 August. (NOTE: All financial transactions of the Standing
Committee can be done by the accountant at National Office -
the accounts are then audited by National Office).
Surpluses from Divisional meetings and symposia (e.g. Analytical
Chemistry (AC) conferences) shall be held in trust by National Office
for the use of the Division.
All funds, including affiliation fees, collected by the Division shall
be held in trust by National Office for the use of the Division. The
Treasurer shall have a running account, containing nominal funds.
Executive Council accepts that the Division, through its officers, may make public
statements in areas within its competence after first informing the Executive Secretary. The Division
shall have no authority to act in the name of the RACI except as authorised by Executive Council.
The Standing Committee of the Division shall award a medal known as the Analytical
Chemistry medal for achievement in analytical chemistry at the biennial Analytical Chemistry (AC) Conference.
If there is no suitable applicant the award will not be presented.

RACI ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY DIVISION MEDAL
Nominations are invited for the Analytical Chemistry Division Medal. This prestigious
award will be presented at (name of conference, place, date).
Conditions are listed below:
- Nominations may be made by individuals or by RACI State Analytical Chemistry Groups.
- Candidates must be Corporate Members of The RACI of at least three years standing.
- The award will be awarded for excellence in pure and/or applied scientific work in Australia or for service to Analytical Chemistry over the prior fifteen years.
- The recipients will be required to present a paper at the Analytical Chemistry Conference at which the award is made.
- The nominations for the medal should include the following information:
- name
- curriculum vitae
- a statement of no greater than 500 words of the nominee's contribution to analytical chemistry in Australia.
- a list of published research papers in refereed journals and other significant publications (e.g. books, review chapters, etc.).
- a photograph of the nominee
- The selection committee will give consideration to those whose contribution is not directly reflected by publications.
- A nomination must be seconded by two RACI members and include the names of two referees with knowledge of the candidate's work. Referees may second the nomination.
- The Standing Committee of the Division will appoint a subcommittee
to consider the nominations and make recommendations. No
award shall be made if the Standing Committee considers
there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- Nominations should be addressed to the Secretary of the Division who will forward nominations to the Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee.
MEETINGS
- The Division shall hold its National Conference every two years where the incoming Conference Organising Committee will be appointed.
- The Division will participate in The RACI National Conferences if considered appropriate.
- Specialist meetings may be held in the year between the Analytical Chemistry (AC) Conference.
- A lectureship, funded to a maximum of $5000 shall be established
by the Division for an Overseas speaker to lecture in each
State/Territory in alternate years to the AC Conference.
EDUCATION
The Division shall establish an Education
Subcommittee whose function is:
- To advise on curricula in Analytical Chemistry in tertiary institutes.
- To promote the science of analytical chemistry by encouraging tertiary institutions to include analytical chemistry components in their courses.
- To promote the science of analytical chemistry by encouraging tertiary institutions to offer postgraduate courses in the area.
- To encourage chemistry students in the field of analytical chemistry through the establishment of prizes in tertiary courses which include analytical chemistry components. The prizes will be offered and awarded by the Analytical Chemistry State Groups.
- To encourage chemistry students to participate in the biennial AC conference by awarding a prize for the best POSTER presentation. (This award may be sponsored by e.g. an instrument company).
The RACI ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY DIVISION STUDENT PRIZE
Nominations are invited for the Analytical Chemistry Division Student Prize to be presented at (name of conference, place, date).
The prize will be for the best POSTER presentation.
Conditions are listed below:
- Nominees must be Student Members of The RACI.
- Nominees must be full time students.
- Nominations for the prize should include the following information:
- name
- curriculum vitae
- The RACI membership number
- A nomination must be endorsed by a lecturer of the course in which the nominee is enrolled.
- The standing Committee of the Division will appoint a subcommittee
to judge the nominations at the conference.
- Nominations for the Student Prize should be addressed the Secretary of the Division who will forward nominations to the Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee.
Late submissions will not be considered.
SPECIALIST GROUPS
Specialist Groups may be established by the Division. The Standing Committee shall co-ordinate the administration of the Groups and will be responsible for monies earned by the Groups.
