Recent Events

RACI SA Branch Merit Ceremony (15th March 2013)

Once again the RACI SA Branch hosted a ceremony to recognise the students who achieved a Merit in the SACE Level 2 Chemistry Exam.  As part of the system of rotating the hosting of this event around the three universities, this year the ceremony was held in the SILC - Science Innovation Learning Centre – at Flinders University.  The event was attended by over 140 people which included around 40 students, family members of the students and chemistry teachers from around the state.  Dr Rachel Popelka-Filcoff, an AINSE Research Fellow from the School of Chemistry & Physics at Flinders University, gave a talk about her research into radioanalytical chemistry and its application in archeological science, forensics and environmental studies.  Rachel was the South Australian Tall Poppy of the Year in 2012.

Physical Chemistry Symposium (3rd December 2012)

The 2012 South Australian Physical Chemistry Symposium was held on December 3rd, 2012, at the University of Adelaide, and brought together 55 researchers in physical chemistry for a successful day of research talks and discussions.  Full report

Biomolecular Chemistry Poster Competition (8th April 2013)

In conjunction with the RACI and Bionomics a poster competition for PhD students in biomolecular chemistry (to be interpreted in a fairly broad sense) will be held on Monday 8th April at 4pm. The event will be open to chemistry students at Flinders, UniSA and the University of Adelaide, and a first prize of free registration to the RACI biomolecular chemistry meeting will be offered.

The event will be hosted by Bionomics, and as well as the poster competition there will be some brief talks from chemists working in the pharmaceutical industry and in patent law, and perhaps a brief lab tour too. Numbers will be limited to 3 or 4 poster entrants per university, so please send an abstract to Dr Jonathan George if you are interested in taking part. Further information can be found here.

Profiles of Chemists in Industry for CiA

The RACI publication (Chemistry in Australia) is looking to get some profiles of Chemists working in industry into the magazine in an effort to broaden peoples understanding of what Chemists out in industry do.
If you work in industry, would you be interested in enlightening the readers with your work experience?

What's involved is a quick Q&Aand maybe even a photo to put into the magazine that gets distributed to RACI Members.
If you are interested please fill in your response to the questions below and e-mail Amanda Saunders (CiA committee member).

Best wishes,

Chris Sumby
