The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) a division of Racing NSW undertakes as an integrity function the analysis of blood and urine samples from horses, greyhounds and jockeys in NSW and interstate. The facility uses highly sophisticated mass spectrometric equipment to detect and confirm the presence of prohibited substances in samples to legally defensible criteria. ARFL is a NATA accredited Laboratory.

Racing NSW invites applications for the position of Senior Scientific Officer reporting to the Laboratory Director.

The main function of this position is the efficient provision of mass spectrometric services at the laboratory for both Racing NSW and external contract requirements. Principal duties include the maintenance of analytical equipment, method development, the analysis of confirmatory and contract work samples and routine checking of analytical data as required.

The successful candidate must have a degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 5-7 years experience in mass spectrometric analysis. A post-graduate degree related to analytical chemistry is highly desirable. Experience in protein analysis by mass spectrometry would be beneficial to the position.

Strong technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a team of scientific and technical staff are essential.
