About
The Northern Territory Branch of the RACI comes from a diverse background and represents a wide group of interests in chemistry. The branch holds a number of activities each year.
In 2012 we hosted several touring lectures, including the Bayliss Youth Lecture with Dr. Bob Muir. This lecture was held in conjunction with the Western Australian Branch and the Chemical Education Division and we hope to host the lecture again in 2013. We also hosted the 2012 RSC Australasian Lectureship with Professor Justin Gooding.
2011 being the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) brought a rare opportunity to witness an international speaker, Dr Lynn Francesconi, as part of the Marie Curie Lecture Tour. We also hosted the Envirotox conference held in April in conjunction with the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Australasia Chapter (SETAC-AU). A Past-President of the NT Branch Committee, Michelle Iles, who has been a strong contributor to NT Branch events and activities, was recognised for her outstanding achievements in environmental chemistry, winning the Australian Mining Women of the Year award in 2011. Read more about it here.
Events
We are holding a laboratory tour in June 2013, for details take a look at the flyer via the link above. Later in the year we plan to host the Bayliss Youth Lecture. The IYC commissioned several touring exhibitions in 2011 which will continue touring for a number of years. The Periodic Table exhibition came to Darwin in 2012 and is currently travelling to other parts of the NT. Upcoming events will be posted on this web page.
