About
The Northern Territory Branch of the RACI comes from a diverse background and represents a wide group of interests in chemistry. The branch holds a number of activities each year, 2011 being the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) brought a rare opportunity to witness a world class speaker, Dr Lynn Francesconi, as part of the Marie Curie Lecture Tour.
Other events included a tour of the AIMS research vessel, the Solander, and the Envirotox conference held in April in conjunction with the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Australasia Chapter (SETAC-AU). The conference was a great success and the NT Branch committee would like to congratulate the organising committee for their efforts.
The Past-President of the NT Branch Committee, Michelle Iles, who has been and a strong contributor to NT Branch events and activities, was recognised for her outstanding achievements in environmental chemistry last year winning the Australian Mining Women of the Year award in 2011. Read more about it here.
Events
In the coming year we hope to continue the dry season BBQ from previous years and to also organise another laboratory or related tour. In addition we hope to coordinate some events with other professional scientific societies in the Northern Territory.
The IYC commissioned several touring exhibitions last year which are set to continue touring for a number of years. We plan to try and get the Periodic Table exhibition to Darwin in 2012. Upcoming events will be posted on this web page.
